Oversized T-Shirts for Short Men: How to Wear Them

In our Google Trends data for India, "oversized t shirt men" gets more searches than the same term for women. Many short men want the look but worry that the fit will swallow them. It does not have to. The problem is almost never the width. The problem is the length. This guide shows where the hem must end, which size to buy and how to build the rest of the outfit. In this guide, "short" means under about 5 ft 6 in.

#Length matters more than width

A loose chest looks relaxed on anyone. A long hem is different. A tee that ends below your hips hides where your legs start. Your legs then look shorter, and your whole body looks shorter.

• Good: the hem ends at your hips or a little above them.
• Too long: the hem covers your seat or ends at the upper thigh.

Check the length in the size chart before you buy. Measure from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem. Then hold a measuring tape on your body from the same point and see where that number ends.

#Which size to buy

#Pants that add height

#Four tricks that add height

1. Use a front tuck. Tuck only the front of the tee into your pants. This shows your waist and shortens the tee.
2. Match the colour of your pants and your shoes. A black pant with black sneakers makes one long line.
3. Wear one colour from head to toe. An all-black or all-beige outfit has no break, so you look taller.
4. Push the sleeves up a little. Sleeves that end below the elbow make the arms look short.

#Shoes

Wear sneakers with a thick sole. They add some height and balance the volume at the top. Low, thin shoes such as slides make a loose tee look heavier. Clean white or black sneakers suit most outfits.

#Common mistakes

• Buying two sizes up for "more oversized". The hem then falls to the thigh.
• Long tee with long shorts. This makes your legs look very short.
